Blizzard night. Around four in the morning it was hardest, some people had to get their tents nailed down again, others simply lost theirs.

In the morning it is a bit chaotic - everything is covered with fresh snow. Well we prayed for having snow, now we have it. Lots and lots. Even in our tent - the top flap went loose during the night ...

The long iron butt tour is postponed for half an hour.

Joergs tent crashed. The glass-fibre poles broke, the fabric tore, only the floor was still nailed to the ground ...

The owner and his friends stayed in the wreck for the rest of the night. We do not know how good they slept ...

The chains stay on the bike until we reach Trieben petrol station. Then: coffee, and rethinking the route ...

Also main roads can be adventourous, depending on the weather conditions ...




Technical stops again. water in the carbs, salt on the ignition coil ...



Hengstpass: good driving conditions (for winter drivers, that is)



Right: motorang driving the SR uphill - with eough weight on the back tire, even the Avon "Skidmaster" was driveable.


Arriving at the Brunch ... at linchtime.

henris MZ could be fixed with a 2CV ignition coil Uwe carried as a spare.



The Unterlaussa Inn - our traditional stop for coffee and cake. After that: continuing our round trip through the Salza valley to Admont.

Wörschach, before driving up to the Spechtenseehütte: some unswerfing drivers try the gravel road.

The Gravel Road Group (GRG) had to give up because the vehicles floated on the snow and therefore lost traction ...





They had to turn around and tried to follow us on the way aroeund, to get to the hut on asphalt - but had to give up in the Trautenfels area. The sight was zero, snow drifts blocked the road, headwinds of 50-60 km/h made it impossible to continue. So they went back to a petrol station to warm up.







The other group (with me leading) also could not get to the hut. The conditions were a little bit better then (we passed Trautenfels before the blizzard hit it) but were not be able to crawl up the steep road to the hut - too icey, and not everybody in the group had snow chains with him. So we checked in at a local restaurant to eat something war, dry our stuff, and then returned the same way to reunite with the GRG at the said petrol station at Trautenfels.

The signal light on the Knepta definitely made sense this year. Uwe and his little group passed a turned over car on the road up to Hohentauern. The police securing the site did not want to let him pass when he went down again to help towing OllYs Ural. But when Uwe showed his snow chain and said that this was the recovery vehicle (referring to the signal light) they let him pass, nearly saluting ...

Kevin had to leave his BMW there. It could be parked at a local guys house (him being ... right: a motorcyclist).

Kev has the experience of his life, riding up to the Treffen on the back of my SR, loosing first gear every once in a while.

I arrive on site around eleven o'clock.

It is difficult to find the right tent, some have to shovel their way inside. Some people are hard to recognize. Right above: Keksi again...

But: evberybody came back in good health with a running vehicle. After 280 km in that weather conditions, you can not ask for more ...
